Nov. 16 (Bloomberg Law) — Most homeowners won’t have coverage for damages from Hurricane Sandy because the damage was mostly caused by storm surge — which policies treat as flood damage, and that’s excluded from most policies, according to Adam Ziffer, a partner at Kasowitz Benson Torres & Friedman LLP. Many businesses, on the other hand, will have coverage because their policies pay when utility service is interrupted, he tells Bloomberg Law’s Lee Pacchia. Even costs of getting workers to the office and buying them meals will often be covered, he said.
